'Clean up the old to make new.’

Welcome to the dark alleyways of hallow city, where slums overtake the posh neighborhoods. The rising cost of living has forced hundreds out into the streets. Unable to buy food never mind pay the rent. Jobs are scarse and the whole place is in disarray, the police doing the best they can to make the place look decent again. Even if it means wiping out the 'scum' that live on the streets.

welcome to Hallow City

Thomas Riley sat hunched over a battered wooden table that was in the centre of the downstairs room of the resistance. It was a large sturdy thing that had been rescued from the dump by members of the resistance well before the main idea for the resistance had formed. It was very large and long and served as both a place for the members to eat, plan and for Thomas and a few others it was also where he slept, away from the sleeping areas of most members. Now though he was using it to plan, his form the only one at the end of the long table looking intently down at some scraps of paper spread over the wood. They where maps of the city, accurate details of each building, alleyway and sewer and he knew his way around all of it, knowing each alleyway like the back of his hand.

Thomas was trying to form attack plans, the resistance already building into an unstoppable momentum. They had gone from a few homeless seeking shelter from the weather to having weapons, food resources, more men and even some money. It was all going so well and yet Thomas couldn't relax so many things where still able to go wrong, so many people under his care could still get hurt. With an aggravated sigh he sat back in one of the odd chairs that lined the table, his being an old garden chair they scavenged one night. He needed more men that was for sure, despite all the loyal homeless he had dedicated to the cause there just wasn't enough. Most of the homeless under his care where too weak to help out with the fighting and so put to use with jobs, which was great but to be able to get a message out the resistance needed to have some power behind it.

Closing his eyes he massaged the lids with one hand, feeling stressed out and tired from a long day of scavenging. They had set out for materials for beds for new members and also for food and unfortunately had made no great finds. A few blankets here and there and a couple of crates of tinned food they managed to steal, anything that was easy to cook and lasted long in storage. Fresh food just wasn't an option as it went off far too easily and took up far too much space. Sitting upright again Thomas glanced once more at the maps laid across the table, he had so many plans, so many buildings and places marked as a target on the maps. But he had to be patient still, with not enough force behind him to do the job properly. There was no doubt about it he had to go out again, either to recruit or scavenge up some more supplies so new members where able to join. The hard work was never over but at least at the end it would be worth it. Pushing back his chair he got up, on the lookout for some members to go out with him.

The sky would be setting shortly. It had been a good day for being an outside. Jonathan never let a day like such go by without taking the fighting outside for some work out and some hard training. Besides, it was one of the few chances any of them ever got to spend some time outside without consisting of sneaking around in the dark, looking over their shoulders and praying not to be caught by the law enforcers of Hallow City. The Refuge, broad a building as it was, was not an enjoyable place to be cooped up in for too long. No set of four walls were, for that matter. And, especially for Jonathan, who had never been particularly capable of sitting still for too long. He was in good shape and he had to be in order to push the men to a decent limit. It pained him sometimes that he had to be so hard on them; they were his new family and they all had amazing motivation and spirits, but a few of them were not exactly trained in combat upon first being taken into the Refuge, and if they were to go out and face the Riot Team, they had to be prepared to the max or die in the streets, one more anonymous victim of the mayor’s brilliant operation.

As the session ended, the group of men and women who’d been with Jonathan outside wiped the sweat from their foreheads, stretched and slowly began heading back inside to use some of the water supply. Jonathan gave them little encouraging phrases as they scattered inside the factory, some still panting, but overall in good spirits, and he reached for a clean large piece of cloth to bury his face in as he approached Thomas at the wooden table that served as his office and where his friend and leader was currently head-bent over something, apparently taking care of logistics. John hadn’t seen him since that very morning when he, Thomas, had gone out scavenging with a group. As Jonathan neared him he noticed that Thomas’ brow was slightly furrowed, which either meant he was in deep concentration or contemplating some bad news and Jonathan really, really hoped it wasn’t the latter.

Before Jonathan reached his friend’s side, Thomas was pushing his chair back and standing up and away from the table as if on business.

“What’s the matter?” John asked him as he closed the remaining distance towards the wooden surface and scanned inquisitively what he recognized to be the city maps they both knew so well. He looked up at Thomas. His first tought was that something had gone wrong while they were out scavenging, but it couldn't have been a casualty or something of that magnitude, beause if it was, it would have been known since the second the group had returned. Hopefully.

At the sound of a voice Thomas turned around too see John, a curious expression on his face. It took a while for what John said to sink into his head, his mind already preoccupied with thoughts but when they did Thomas just shook his head lightly with a slight smile. "Nothing really, just the same everyday worries the resistance must come up against" he said flatly before shaking his head again, snapping himself out of his mood. "Ahh sorry, im just been all emotional again. Must be my time of the month." He joked whilst pushing the garden chair under and sweeping up the maps from the table.

"No really though, the scavenging trip this morning didn't go too well. We still have more than enough to survive but its just dampened my mood a little that's all" Thomas said with a shrug, looking down at the maps in his hand again for a moment before looking back up at Jonathan. "I'm thinking of getting together another team and heading back out if your interested? just take another look around and see what we can find" with a smile he turned back to the map in his hand before slamming it back down on the table and pointing at an area not too far away from where the refuge was marked with a black marker. It was where the every growing slums met up with a less well off part of the city that was dangerously close to becoming a slum itself. "Haven't been around this area in a long time, gold mine for things we need and the cops dont patrol the area much. perfect"

Leaving the map on the table he turned back to John with a smile, "you up for it then?" Thomas asked rather enthusiastically. Truthfully he loved roaming the city, especially around this time as the sun was setting.
occ: Sorry it took so long, busy weekend lol
